Struggling to decide on the right security camera system? Here’s what to look for…
Ensure that the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is compatible with multiple megapixel (MP) camera systems
- Port Availability
Double check that the DVR has multiple ports for additional security cameras in the future. This decision should be based on the square footage (sq ft) of your home.
For example: a 1200 sq ft home would need a 4-port DVR. This will support 4 cameras.
A 2400-3000 sq ft home would need up to an 8-port DVR. This will support 6-8 cameras.
Your storage capacity depends on how many cameras you will need.
For example: a 4-port DVR will need to have between 500 gigabytes (GB) – 1 terabyte (TB) of hard drive storage.
An 8-port DVR will need to have between 1 TB – 2 TB of hard drive storage.
